How Do I Know That The Bible Is True And Not A Book Of Fictional Stories?
As Christians the foundation of our belief is the word of God (The Holy Bible), this is the foundation upon which our faith is based and the reason why for so many years many have tried to disprove, corrupt or deny it.
From the days of the first church, as the apostles travelled from place to place planting churches, false teachers would rise up as soon as they left to try to pollute the gospel with heresy and false teaching.
And as time has gone on there have been many attacks on the authenticity of the bible from those that believe in the “big bang theory” and humans evolving from apes, from other faiths and religions or from those that don’t even know what they believe.
There are also those that claim to be Christians but have sought to mislead and hide the real truth of scripture, and have killed thousands of true followers of Christ for not excepting their lies.
And some have just either just grown up into a particular faith or been indoctrinated into it and haven’t bothered to study what it is they’re following to see if it lines up with what the bible says. In this article, we will also examine some of the undeniable facts that prove the bible (King James Version) to be a true account of the word of God.
I am not going to tell you that I have all the answers to every question because some things God is quiet about, and where I could, like so many have done in the past, add my own theory to these subjects, I think it best that I stick to what is written.
So the first question you might want to ask yourself is:
How Do I Know That The Bible Is True And Not A Book Of Fictional Stories?
Over the years there have been many significant archaeological discoveries that coincide with biblical events and make it hard for people to doubt the existence of certain biblical characters.
One such find was “The Tel Dan inscription” or the “House of David Inscription” as it is known. This is a 9th-century artefact that proves the existence of King David the notorious giant slayer who used only a sling; a stone and the power of God to subdue the Philistine giant named Goliath. David was then able to use Goliath’s own sword to slay him.
The “House of David inscription” which was unearthed in 1993 in the north of Israel was found in a dig led by an archaeologist by the name of Avraham Biran.
The inscription talks of the Aramean Kings defeat of the king of Israel and the King of the House of David. This event can be found in 2 Kings 13:3-6
2Ki 13:3 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, all their days.
2Ki 13:4 And Jehoahaz besought the LORD, and the LORD hearkened unto him: for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them.
2Ki 13:5 (And the LORD gave Israel a saviour so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians: and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents, as beforetime.
The word Aramean refers to the people of Aram which in our text (taken from the King James Version of the Bible) says “Syria”, some other Version will actually say Aram but never the less they are referring to the same place.
Wikipedia says the following: Aram is a region mentioned in the Bible located in present-day central Syria, including where the city of Aleppo (a.k.a. Halab) now stands.
Another significant find was the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls in 1947; this discovery netted about 900 items, including the whole book of Isaiah. This find confirms the accounts of Isaiah that we see in our bible today to be true.
Isaiah is a prophetic book that foretold many events that have since come to pass including the prophecy that Jesus would be born of a virgin and that he would die for our sins.
Isa 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
(The name Immanuel means “God-with-us”)
Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isa 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Another discovery was the “Ketef Hinnom Amulets”; these are scrolls that were found in 1979 in a tomb in “Ketef Hinnom” or “Shoulder of Hinnom” which is found in the old City of Jerusalem towards the south-west of the City, where the valley of Hinnom and the valley of Rephaim merge. They are said to be as old as the 7th-century BC which makes them over 500 years older than the Dead Sea Scrolls.
The amulets are made of silver and the inscriptions that were found on them are from the book of Numbers 6:24-26
Num 6:24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
Num 6:25 The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
Num 6:26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
These are just two of many discoveries that have been made over the years that validate the accuracy of the bible, but let’s also look at the main Character of the bible and the person that is the centre of the whole plan of God, Jesus Christ the Son of God.
Did Jesus really exist or was he some made up fictional character?
Well a Roman historian by the name of Cornelius Tacitus, a man who despised Christians and was considered to be the best of the Roman historians, wrote among other things about Christians and their founder Christ whom he said had been executed by Pontius Pilot in the time of Tiberius Caeser.
This writing authenticates the New Testament account of Jesus’ death on the cross
So, on the subject of Jesus, He Himself made many references to the Old Testament and quoted from it continually, confirming that He believed it to be the true word of God.
I could drag this out by listing every quote and every time Jesus referred to the Old Testament or even talk about some of the other great finds but I think that the few that I have mentioned should whet your appetite, so I urge you to now do your own research and dig deep but please use the King James Bible as your foundation and ensure that everything lines up to the Word of God.
