The Valley of Dry Bones

The valley of dry bones

The valley of dry bones is a vision found in the book of Ezekiel chapter 37:1-14. From this book, we get an insight into the unusual visions that God shared with His prophet Ezekiel.

Israel had sinned against the Lord and as a result, was taken into captivity.

Ezekiel was God’s messenger to the people of Israel; God used him to remind Israel why they were in this predicament.

Ezekiel was also used to bring the people hope. He told them if they would turn from their wicked ways then God would restore them.

The Valley of Dry Bones

God took Ezekiel in the spirit to a valley full of dry bones, Ezekiel says that as he passed by them he could see lots of bones and they were very dry. They had obviously been there for some time.

Although this was representative of the condition of Israel at that time, it still has great significance to us today. The dry bones represent those that are out of the will of God and are lost. Some of which are so far away from where they need to be, hence they are very dry.

God asks Ezekiel if he things the bones can live. Ezekiel basically says “that’s up to you Lord”.

Everyone Needs to Hear the Gospel

So many times we can write people off, or not bother to witness to someone thinking that they are beyond help. Or make up in our own mind that this person won’t receive the gospel from us.

The Lord said to Ezekiel, speak to the bones and tell them to hear the word of the Lord. This is exactly what the Lord is saying to you today, preach and teach the gospel to all nations. Let them hear the word of the Lord as that is the only way to build their faith.

It doesn’t matter how dry they may seem to you, it is not for to you to decide who hears the gospel and who doesn’t.

God may send some very dry souls your way for the sole purpose of you reaching them with the gospel.

If you are a Christian this is your calling and purpose. You must continue the work that Jesus started.

The devil will try to discourage and stop you from fulfilling the great commission but do not grow weary in doing good because your help comes from the Lord.

The Lord Breaths Life into the Bones

Ezekiel tells the bones that the Lord will cause breath to enter into them and they shall live.

Our job is just to present the gospel to the lost then allow God to do the rest.

God says that He will cause breath to enter into them. The word breath used in this scripture is taken from the Hebrew word “Ruach” which means wind or Spirit.

It is the Spirit that will bring about a change in that person’s life. It is not our job to point out people’s faults, we only need to tell them about the love and sacrifice of Jesus and leave the rest to God.

God continues to speak through Ezekiel telling the bones that He will cause tissues, muscle and skin to come onto them. Ezekiel obediently prophesied to the bones and they shook and came together. Then tissue, muscle and skin came upon them.

Ezekiel then prophesied to the wind and it entered them and they lived, stood up and became a great army for the Lord.
