What Shall I Do To Be Saved
All have sinned
Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
No one hasn’t sinned, our very nature is sinful and from the day we are born we require salvation. There is nothing that you can do earn salvation, it is a gift that you will receive when you believe.
The wages of sin
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
When you were born you became an eternal being, like it or not you will live forever, heaven and hell are real and your time on earth which is a mere blip in eternity, is the only time you get to decide where you spend eternity, will it be in heaven with Jesus, or will it be in hell with satan?
God’s love towards us
Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Before you were born God had you on His mind, he knew you before you were in your mother’s womb and took your pain and penalty and your shame with Him to the cross.
Confess with your mouth
Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11 For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES ON HIM WILL NOT BE PUT TO SHAME.”
Rom 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.
Rom 10:13 For “WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED.”
This means that whatever you’ve done in the past don’t matter, if you determine in your heart and confess the Lord Jesus Christ with your mouth He will lead you to salvation.
Prayer for Salvation
The prayer for salvation is not a magic potion, the words by themselves mean nothing if YOU don’t believe them, and it is not a fixed script, I mean it’s not something you have to say word for word. The main thing is that it comes from you heart and you mean it.
When you say “I repent” this is an active word, this means that you have to honestly look inside yourself and make a decision to stop doing everything you know to be wrong and out of line with God’s word.
If you have decided to give your life to the Lord then say this prayer or use it as a template for what you want to say to God.
Lord Jesus I believe that you are the Son of God,
I believe that you died on the cross for my sins and rose again on the third day
Lord Jesus I repent of all my sins and ask for your forgiveness
Lord Jesus come into my life, come into my heart, and fill me with your Holy Spirit
Be my Lord and saviour and I will serve you forever.
Amen.
This is the first steps that you have taken but what you need to do now is to be baptised, this means to be fully submerged in water. This is a necessary part of the salvation process as without it the bible tells us we cannot see the kingdom of God
Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Joh 3:4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
New Testament Plan of Salvation
What Jesus Preached:
Luk 24:46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,
Luk 24:47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luk 24:48 And you are witnesses of these things.
Luk 24:49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
What Peter Preached:
After waiting in Jerusalem with the other disciples and being filled with the Holy Spirit Peter took the opportunity to preach Jesus to the large crowd that had gathered for the Pentecost calibrations, the bible states that there were devout men there from every nation.
When Peter had finished preaching the bible states that they were pricked in their hearts, this means that they were convicted and believed what Peter had told them.
So now that they believed they wanted to know how to obtain salvation, in Acts 2:38 we can read what Peter said to them.
Act 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Act 2:39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
That day over 3000 souls accepted the Lord and were baptised in Jesus’ name for the remission of sins.
Below is an outline of the significance of baptism and the bible verses attached to them.
- Jesus Died (1 Corinthians 15:1-3), We must die to sin (Repentance) (Romans 6:2)
- Jesus Was Buried (1 Corinthians 15:4), We must be buried (Baptism) (Romans 6:3-4)
- Jesus Rose Again (1 Corinthians 15:4), We Must Rise Again (Renewed) (Romans 6:4; 8:2)
Some people will tell you that baptism is not necessary and that all you have to do is believe and say the prayer, but what I would say is Jesus was baptised, Jesus with his disciples baptised others, Jesus taught about the importance of Baptism to enter heaven and the last thing Jesus did before He ascended to heaven was to give specific instructions for His disciples to Baptise all nations.
To apply baptism to your salvation is not “works” as some would put it, it is obedience to the word of God.
